The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Jharkhand Health Services Association (JHASA) have announced a one-day strike in protest against the mistreatment of the Civil Surgeon and Deputy Superintendent of a hospital in Garhwa. As a result, all medical services, except emergency services, have been closed at the Deoghar Sadar Hospital today.
Prabhat Ranjan, the Secretary of JHASA and the Deputy Superintendent of the hospital stated that doctors are frequently being attacked and the Medical Protection Act, which is applicable in all states, is not enforced in Jharkhand. Therefore, both government and private medical associations are demanding the implementation of the Act and strict action against the culprits.
Today, all medical services, except emergency services, have been suspended, and JHASA has vowed to continue its protest until the government meets its demands. After the protest, regular services were restored, and emergency services continued to operate in the same OPD.
Meanwhile, state health minister Banna Gupta, while talking to the media, said that this is not a law and order situation. “It is a standalone case. Authorities have been instructed to deal with the culprits strictly”, said Gupta.
